: an agreement to stop fighting, hiding, resisting, etc., because you know that you will not win or succeed : an act of surrendering
: the act of giving the control or use of something to someone else
: the act of allowing yourself to be influenced or controlled by someone or something
As we get further and further into the Anything study we keep reading about surrender and how that can mean suffering. Suffering obviously scares people because who wants to suffer? Last night at bible study it came up that if we pray Anything and say “ok God, you can do anything with my life and I surrender it all to you” that it means we will suffer. If we are following God and trusting Him why would he make us suffer? (I have lots of thoughts flying around my head so lets see if I can get them down in writing and have it make just a little bit of sense.)
God does not make us suffer. In Jeremiah 29:11 he says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
If we follow Him the Bible tells us we will be persecuted but He does not do things to harm us. God does not cause harm. Will there be pain and suffering in your life? Yes. Because we live in a fallen world where our flesh overpowers sometimes. Will God use that suffering that you endure for good? If you let him, yes.
So many times I’ve thought God was punishing me for past sins with circumstances that have happened in our life, but God is not punishing me. The enemy comes like a thief in the night to kill, steal, and destroy and he is deceitful. The enemy wants us to think that God is punishing us and showing us his wrath. God doed not do things to hurt us.
If you take those sufferings and turn to God and allow Him to work through you, He will turn those ashes into something beautiful. He will use those difficult moments to help you grow closer to him and he will use your story to help someone else.
A lot of times people hit rock bottom, then find Jesus and then say a lot of times that Jesus brought them to rock bottom so they could find him. Jesus did not allow them to get to rock bottom, their flesh did. Jesus is just there to pick you up and restore you, if you let him.
So does surrender equal suffering? Yes and no. Yes because we will be persecuted for our faith. No, because the suffering here and now, in this ever so short life, will be rewarded greatly in Heaven. Great is our reward.
It’s time to stop resisting and hiding and fighting, God wants all of us. I’m ready, are you?
